Spring 2024 Environmental Speaker Series

The BRRAlliance will be holding a Spring environmental speaker series on every Saturday in April.  Speakers will cover a range of topics of import for the Buffalo-Erie-Niagara region and the people who live here.  All of our presenters and their presentations have been announced – see our events calendar for more!

April 08 2024: Community Eclipse Viewing at Riverside Park

What a day!  Despite the cloud cover, lots of people came out to Riverside Park to picnic and view the 2024 solar eclipse!  Our view was one of the best in the city, as during totality cloud cover broke several times, allowing glimpses of the eclipse.  Wow!  A special thank you to the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, City Councilor Joe Golombek, Erie County Legislator Michael Kooshoian, the Buffalo Museum of Science, the Black Rock Historical Society, and our event volunteers for a once-in-a-lifetime event – Buffalo won’t see its next total solar eclipse until October 2144!  Hopefully the skies are clear!

Twelve Years of Transformation

As we get close to the end of 2023, we want to thank all of our supporters for our past “12 Years of Transformations”. We’re going to continue that transformational energy into 2024, and to do so we need your help with a donation to our year end campaign.
Please click on the “Donate” link above to help us continue to focus on the environmental health and the economic development of our community. As a special thank you for donations of $30 we will send you a 2024 “12 Years of Transformation” calendar with photos of Charlie our Community Dog and our favorite community transformations. If you donate $50 or more, we will also throw in a “We Are Black Rock” pennant as an additional thank-you gift. Donations of any size are deeply appreciated!
And do keep following us for more transformations to come in 2024 and beyond!

A Message From our President

Greetings from the Black Rock Riverside Alliance Board of Directors!

It has been a little while since our neighbors heard from me so I thought I would check in with an update on some of our progress during 2023.

Over the past several months, the BRRA has been fast at work getting our new headquarters, the Black Rock Harbor Center, up to its “fully armed and operational” status. We have tenants, including key partnerships with like-minded nonprofits, and are actively running programming and community events from our very own space. These efforts run in tandem with our curation of the other community spaces under our charge, including regular events at Market Square Park and the maintenance of our beloved community gardens.

In terms of programming, the Alliance successfully recertified Erie County and the City of Buffalo as NWF Wildlife Habitats, as part of our ongoing support of the Habitat Project. We also continue to support Niagara County and other neighboring counties in their certification efforts. Efforts to implement our most recent Main Street Grant revitalization initiative are in full swing and should wrap up this summer. In the meantime, we had time to hold an outrageously fun meat raffle, participated in the Give716 event for 7/16 Day, and are planning the Second Annual River Rock Run in the fall.

If you are interested in getting involved please let us know. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers at every level, especially more community volunteers to help maintain the gardens and particularly engaged (or vocal) stakeholders at the Board Committee and Board of Directors level. Your help is greatly needed and appreciated!”
